Yesterday I received an order to make some caricatures from photos of a family. A family consisting of a couple and their four pets! Although three of them have passed away, there is no doubt that they are still family and must appear in the cartoon ?
It is a challenge that I loved to do because it poses two problems; the composition and the diversity of expressions, dog expressions of course, the cat is usually vigilant.
The first thing was to arrange the composition in terms of sizes. The larger ones, backwards in the plane and upwards, and from there, distribute the space downwards.
As for the pets’ expressions, in order to close the story between them, I decided to put the one who still lives with the couple, in the center and surprised, and his other companions looking at him expectantly.
This is how the order was finally placed. The main flaw I identify is the lack of a complementary color to balance the scale. Perhaps it would have been better not to be so faithful to the color of the girl’s sweater and use that shot to make the surrounding colors more vibrant.
